Kennedy Speechwriter Now Backing Donald Trump

AMERICAN LOOKOUT: There have been some major defections from the Democratic Party during this election and it’s all because of Trump’s wide appeal. This is a special case, however. The Kennedys are the royal family to Democrats, so to have someone who worked directly for RFK backing Trump has to hurt.

Adam Walinski was RFK’s speechwriter and he’s on the Trump Train.

Politico has the story:

I Was RFK’s Speechwriter. Now I’m Voting for Trump. Here’s Why.

I was a Democrat all my life. I came to Washington to serve President John Kennedy and Attorney General Robert Kennedy. When the president was murdered and his brother struck off on his own, I joined his Senate campaign and staff as his legislative assistant and speechwriter, until his presidential campaign ended with his own assassination. I ran on a (losing) Democratic ticket in the New York state elections of 1970. When I was working to enact my own program of police reform in the 1980s and 1990s, then-Governor Bill Clinton was chairman of my National Committee for the Police Corps.

This year, I will vote to elect Donald Trump as president of the United States.

So profound a change, and a decent respect for old friendships, requires me to deliver a public accounting for this decision.

  1. The defection of reasonable D’s is exactly the outcome I predicted way back in January when few would agree with my nutty prognostications. I had a hard time even articulating what, exactly, I meant; only that in the first few days following the shocking NR “Against Trump” issue, it was clear as day to me that the preening intellectuals of the Right had completely misjudged the hearts and minds of the average citizen this cycle, and they mistook Tea Party passion and dedication as a willingness to jump off an ideological cliff with them by backing a nominee who not only scared those who liked him, but would have made it impossible to bridge the divide between the D’s and R’s. What made Senator Cruz popular with his ideological peers is exactly why he would have never won the GE against the powers now arrayed against Trump. Instead it is now Clinton who, daily, is scaring her voters to death with her record of foreign policy failure and incoherent proposals. Trump is the most “every man” candidate to come this way in living memory and, perhaps, according to Gingrich (who knows a few things about American history), a unique figure in all of that history. Witness that despite his full adoption of the Republican platform with his own additional planks such as the repeal of the so-called “Johnson Bill” and an even harder line on border security and immigration/deportation than seen from the Republicans in many decades, he has successfully won over Life Long Democrats who, almost magically, now understand the knife’s edge their own doctrinaire intellectualism has placed them. They now repent of their Utopian hard-line in favor of something way more doable. And way more necessary to the fundamental survival of this country. Something the #NT still can’t wrap their heads around.

  2. I read the entire essay. This man is expressing his reasons for not voting for Clinton in a manner that Republican defectors from Trump have never been able to articulate. The Kennedy brothers wouldn’t recognize their party or their country. The Democrat party of Obama and Clinton is the party of Sanders and the Socialist and Communists that the Kennedys opposed in Congress and in JFK’s presidency. How many other Democrats are fed up with the misguided wars and military alliances of Obama and Clinton is the big question? Why would anyone who supports Israel vote for someone who has handed Iran the path to destroy the only democracy in the Middle East?

  3. TO Abigail

…and the #NTers (mindless) response would be:
“See?!? That *proves* he’s not a true Conservative!”
…WHICH – if you stop to think about it – is another way of saying,
“We prefer to lose on our own terms…at least we LOSE!”

  4. CoD — The globalist Uniparty Republicans and those who really thought there was an actual “Conservative” arm within that structure have merely co-opted the term ‘conservative’ because compared to the Progressive arm of their club, they are conservative. It’s all relative. But Trump goofs the whole, tidy plan up by actually being serious about conservatism — and he’s probably never even read Russell Kirk! Damn him! LOL!
