FOX : Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl–held captive for five years after being captured by the Taliban in Afghanistan–has requested a pardon from President Obama, Fox News has learned from two senior US officials.
According to a well-placed source, Bergdahl thanked the president for rescuing him in May 2014 in a controversial exchange for five Taliban prisoners from Gitmo, in addition to asking for a pardon in the letter.
The Secretary of the Army was copied on the letter to the president, but the pardon was not formally requested through the military chain of command.
A Justice Department official confirms that it received a pardon petition from Bergdahl. Pentagon and White House officials would not immediately respond for comment. read more

So, Pvt Bergdahl goes on trial in May 2017. But Pvt Bergdahl is requesting a pardon from the sitting Pres now. If Bergdahl is innocent of the charges facing him, then why would he request a pardon? Ergo, didn’t Bergdahl just admit his guilt?
Why has it taken the Army so damned long to bring Bergdahl to trial? it’s all political, he should’ve been tried a long time ago and already be at Ft. Leavenworth for life at hard labor. Why is he so special? I just don’t get it.
@Geoff. I was wondering, if the Army tried & convicted Bergdahl in 2016, wouldn’t Obama just Pardon him in Jan 2017 while he leaves office? If so, the Army dragging the court Martial into 2017 may have been intentional on the Army’s part?
If Obama preemptively pardons Bergdahl before a trial, it tilts the whole concept of “Justice” on its ear. But watching Comey and Loretta Lynch handle Clinton and her cronies, I think Justice under Obama is already on its ear!
The thing that gets my goat is that he went AWOL as a private and was promoted to sergeant while missing. At least six brave soldiers died searching for the son of a bitch and he still hasn’t been tried. FUBAR, Big Time.
