Is Homeschooling Killing Public Schooling?

District Fears of Permanent Loss of Students Grounded in Reality.

Breitbart:

Public school districts that lost student enrollment during the coronavirus pandemic are facing the prospect those students will stay with their new education choices.

Since funding cuts will come with drops in enrollment, school districts may now have to compete for those students, whose families chose private, religious, and homeschooling options during the school shutdowns and subsequent blocking of reopening by teachers’ unions.

These families may decide to remain in alternative settings, according to education outlet Chalkbeat and the Associated Press (AP).

In San Francisco, for example, public school enrollment has plunged as mostly white families are fleeing the district.

More than 1,700 public school students have left the city’s district over the past year, with possibly a continued exodus into the start of the next academic year in the fall. The drop in enrollment could amount to a loss of about $20 million in state funding. more

  1. Home School or Church based Education are the only credible alternatives. Local Home School Associations (like minded parents) can guide new home school parents with the best curiculum and assistance. Our association grouped 4 to 6 children together as some Home School parents were more prepared and proficient in some subjects, where my wife and I were not. They taught algebra, calculus and statistics; to offset we took children on trips to museums, zoos, various businesses and other outdoor activities. We all helped eachother. All the students were well adjusted and later all completed college and some Masters degrees. Most are married now, raising and teaching their own children.

  2. The Sixth grade isn’t even taught at my old public elementary school anymore. I went there in 1975 to 1982. The school, nor my parents knew I was totally illiterate at age 9 or 10 fourth grade. My older brother was in the Sixth grade, and he couldn’t read for shit either.

My parents had to spend $10.000 to teach their two sons to read privately, and neither of us were ever able to keep up in class even afterwords. It took three years. I didn’t graduate from High School, and neither did my older brother.

  3. What’s really going to kill public schools is online education. There is little need for brick and mortar schools and little need for teachers. It’s just a matter of time.

  4. Even the worst attacks on America unleash the underlying American spirit to succeed. Thank you Chairman Xi. You have helped us break the backs of our evil school boards and teachers unions. We couldn’t have done it without you. We appreciate your unwitting help, you commie moron. Commie moron, but I repeat myself.

  5. Homeschooled 12 kids all the way through high school. My wife of course did it. I could only help with any questions the kids had about a subject. And feeding all of them,
Public schooled wives and husbands of our kids have brought in some problematic world views into our family but that’s to be expected I guess.

  6. I was thinking about this a few weeks ago. Just homeschool the kids and these liberal assholes won’t be able to push their agenda and will have to search for another line of work.

  7. They are government schools. They believe your kids belong to them. Vouchers are a good way to take back control and put quality in education.
We (my wife did), homeschooled our three girls from day one. No regrets.

1/8/02 Common Core became the basis for fed education programs. In Fall of ’02 there was a marked increase in home schooling in Cal. For the next several years homeschooling has grown. Sacto has passed many laws to “outlaw” home schooling. Sacto has put at least 3 (maybe more but I know of 3 for sure) “initiatives” on the ballot making home schooling illegal. The Cal GOP has been far left for 35 years; but Cal voters are still conservative. All 3 were voted down. As have all the far left “conservatives” the GOP has run the last 30 years.. 2 of which were “Featured Speakers” at the DNC last year.
Homeschooling puts a target on your back in Cal; but it is still MOSTLY LEGAL.
Voters understand. But UINIPARTY legislators also understand “which side there breads are buttered open!”!>!@#%&!?
