Ivan The Terrible Painting Damaged By A Terrible Drunk

A 37-year-old Russian was at the Treyakov gallery in Moscow when, (he now claims) he came upon a buffet serving vodka. Thus fortified with Russia’s favorite beverage, the individual then took a metal rope stand used to cordon off the famous Ilya Repin painting of Ivan the Terrible cradling his son after bashing his head in a fit of rage. The unidentified gallery visitor took the metal stand and proceeded to smash the security glass meant to protect the masterpiece. Significant damage was done to the work though the area with the Czar and his son was left relatively unharmed by the assault. The gallery is now reconsidering its policy of serving alcohol on the premise. Here
