Once again, science pulls a 180. Remember when they said eating meat would cause heart attacks, cancer and bowel obstructions? Well, now they say maybe they were overstating things a bit. (Hey, ya think maybe they’re wrong about eating meat causing global warming? Naaaaaaaaaa.)
Public health officials for years have urged Americans to limit consumption of red meat and processed meats because of concerns that these foods are linked to heart disease, cancer and other ills.
But on Monday, in a remarkable turnabout, an international collaboration of researchers produced a series of analyses concluding that the advice, a bedrock of almost all dietary guidelines, is not backed by good scientific evidence.
If there are health benefits from eating less beef and pork, they are small, the researchers concluded. Indeed, the advantages are so faint that they can be discerned only when looking at large populations, the scientists said, and are not sufficient to tell individuals to change their meat-eating habits.
“The certainty of evidence for these risk reductions was low to very low,” said Bradley Johnston, an epidemiologist at Dalhousie University in Canada and leader of the group publishing the new research in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
The new analyses are among the largest such evaluations ever attempted and may influence future dietary recommendations. In many ways, they raise uncomfortable questions about dietary advice and nutritional research, and what sort of standards these studies should be held to.
Already they have been met with fierce criticism by public health researchers. The American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and other groups have savaged the findings and the journal that published item.
BECAUSE THE SCIENCE HAS BEEN SETTLED, GODDAMMITTTTTT!!
I trust them, like I trust my doctors.
As FAR as I can KICK them. 😡
If the “science” comes from the WHO, CDC or any ivy league school, it is bullshit. Stop me when I’m wrong.
Follow the grant money.
“Scientists” can’t even define “Man” and “Woman” any more, so don’t expect anything but an agenda from them, to keep getting juicy grants so they can continue to avoid doing anything useful or productive.
…as the Lord cautions,
“13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
2 Timothy 3:13-17
Years ago, The Seattle Times replaced The Seattle Post Intelligencer as the Dixie Lee Ray newspaper-of-choice for wrapping fish. Is it possible they now want to shed that distinction?
I prefer my red meat with a generous portion of salt. 8-P
You hear that? All of you leftists in the meadows collecting incriminating cow fart samples can get back to the truck.
I just finished a heaping helping of Nolan Ryan slow-cooked roast beef. I may live forever!
As I have commented before, the Gov’t Food Pyramid should be inverted. Protein (meats, eggs, nuts) on the larger bottom section and carbs (breads, rice, grains, pasta) on the smallest top section.
Eat food as close to the way God made it.
“More meat, Ma’dam!”
I’ve never listened to them about meat; I’m too much of a carnivore.
…well, the OEM for the human body says…
“9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.”
Acts 10, 9-15
…I’m gonna go with the Maker on this one. .
Used to eat two Arby’s Roast beef sandwiches for lunch. Divine.
Hmmmmm, sugar, butter, eggs, bacon, beef….. What nobody (the big heads) seem to realize is that they perform these vast studies out of a population (world?) that is enormous. NO two people are alike and everyone dies.
“The first stage in the corruption of morals is the banishment of truth …”
Michel de Montaigne
Being an omnivore that consumes whatever one wishes, with moderation, seems to work pretty well.
I can’t even imagine how horrible life would be if one is a vegan. No wonder they are generally hangry leftists.
If the settled science got this “wrong” then what about the settled science of global warming/cooling/change/disruption??
I reviewed the literature on diet for a court case were U was the expert witness. Was surprised to find that there is no evidence at all that diet has any influence on your health unless you are eating too many calories or too few or not receiving adequate vitamins. Cholesterol and fats do nothing. There is zero evidence of cholesterol causing any known disease and reducing your cholesterol does nothing. The AHA is a terrible organization and worthless. Look up cholesterol myth.
Recent studies of 2000 years ago mummies found heart disease was a problem even back then.
Thumb rule: if a food package sports a “Heart Healthy” seal of approval, better buy something else for dinner.
The dietary guidelines pushed by government for 50+ years is based on poor research practices. Research results that come from “confirmation bias” – when researchers look for and uses only the research data that supports their own preconceived ideas or beliefs. Plus refusing to do everything possible to find data that doesn’t support their ideas. Then also going the extra step to suppress research done by others that doesn’t support their ideas. Often also destroying the careers of the researchers that found opposing views.
This method is made worse when the “confirmation bias” prone researchers gain favor of politicians who support their work – who can control or direct who gets government funding for future research. Who can also lend a hand destroying contrary research. However, as the linked story shows, in recent years cracks are forming in that wall. New information is leaking in.
The dietary research method that has been followed for fifty years – is the same model used for – AGW, global warming, climate change research. Deliver to a politician research that justifies their desire to control your life, take more of the money you earned, and you and your research team are their fair-haired favorite children who will be given everything they want.
Geez, something common sense was published in Seattle. That’s a surprise, too.
Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzQAHITIUhg
Then read, “The Big Fat Surprise,” to settle your science.
Tallow, lard, and suet are good.
Carbs and most vegetable oils are bad.
I’ve long been fond of these two Richard Feynman quotes:
“Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts.”
“The first principle (for researchers) is that you must not fool yourself — and you are the easiest person to fool.”
fter some time, I was reminded of a little poem:
A centipede was happy quite, until a toad in fun
Said, “Pray, which leg comes after which?”
This raised his doubts to such a pitch
He fell distracted in the ditch
Not knowing how to run.

Would You like 92 really good years or 93 miserable ones?
I’m eating a barbecue beef sandwich as I type this. Not kidding.
Saw my doctor last week. Wasn’t good. Told me I had six months to live. THen he gives me the bill. I told him I didn’t have enough to pay it, so he gave me another six months.
Eggs: Good then bad then good again
Protein: same thing
Carbs: Bad, good, then bad
Coffee: Worse than tea, then better, then worse
And all the drug side effects…
And my favorite: whiskey good for you, Vodka is better (less contaminants), then back to Whisky ( anti-oxidants)
I Do What I Want! Tonight I Want Smoked Ribs!
We’re having homemade chicken and sausage gumbo for dinner tonight. YUM!
Yep, with all the shit you have to worry about ‘side-effects’ from the pharmaceuticals I doubt that MEAT should be a major concern.
This “new information” immediately reminded me of exactly the same joke by Woody Allen in “Sleeper.” Who would have ever suspected it would come true.
There is only one reason we have incisors. To tear meat!
Heart disease is (still) the number 1 killer worldwide and in the US. If you want to pay for it, there are tests that can show you your heart disease progression visually, in a typical American this starts in adolescense and slowly builds for a lifetime. The first symptom in many is a heart attack or stroke. Only one diet has been shown to reverse heart disease, with picture proof, before and after, published in a reputable peer reviewed journal. You go search it out yourself since you probably won’t believe me.
Here is the article. https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/eat-less-red-meat-scientists-said-now-some-believe-that-was-bad-advice/
Over the years I have found only one diet that has proven to be healthy and kept my weight and body in good form, and that is the Dr Atkins based diet. He demonstrated that a protein based diet was much better then carb and plant based diet and was scorned and laughed at. For years now new information has yet again proven his findings correct. The high protein diet is called many things now, but Atkins is still the best and easy to follow. If you want to build strength and lose fat weight it is the only diet that works.
Likely made up by Progressives!
