Oregon Voters Decriminalize Possession of Hard Drugs, Including Heroin, Cocaine, and Meth

Yahoo- Oregon voters have approved a measure to decriminalize possession of all drugs, including heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamines, for personal use.

According to Measure 110, residents caught with small amounts of hard drugs will be required to choose between a $100 fine or a treatment program, but will be spared a jail sentence.

Offenders who choose treatment for drug addiction will be able to access new recovery centers for free. The recovery centers will be funded by taxpayer dollars made through the sale of marijuana. Oregon was the first state in the U.S. to legalize marijuana use. more

  1. Soros knows Oregon politician are as weak as they get, worse than California. The Oregon Democrat party’s motto is PANDER TO PARASITES. If you think crime is bad now, just wait. Seattle and San Francisco will soon become clean and vibrant.

  2. Goodbye Oregon, it was good to know you. Don’t expect me to visit or want to go to Oregon ever again anytime soon and especially Portland, Eugene and Salem. The fools and the dumbasses have spoken, good luck with that. And they want to pay for this nonsense with the sale of pot. Why don’t you just put a Taco Hell and Jack In The Box on every corner for all the stoners and druggies who will migrate there.

  3. Gee I dunno, $100 fine is a serious deterrent!
I foresee RAMPANT burglary and sidewalk armed robbery, which will be quite colorful in places where the police have long ago been made to ‘stand down’.

And ‘free’ rehab you say? IOW, free room and board for the strung out, so they can reinvigorate to get back on the street and torment the innocents.

Might as well move a third world country where malaria and ebola are endemic and rampant! Oregon will be a most nasty shithole.

  4. …I’ve treated heroin addicts, seen heroin addicts in action in extended family, and carried the coffin of the deceased heroin addict son of a close friend who died right in front of his wife and 10 year old son, so I know something about heroin addicts.

The one thing they do NOT need is for it to be MORE permissive.

The $100 fine is meaningless to people who steal from their own children, parents, spouses, friends, and complete strangers to support their habit on the regular. I know one that stole $20,000 on a parent’s credit cards in one go, purchasing things and immediately selling them for quick cash. I know another that had all the family electronics piled at the door to take to his fence when his grandma walked in on him. They think nothing of robbery and mugging at need, and this is a place that barely has a police force. Plus, you can be sure some Communist council person will cancel the fee as racist or something anyway, even in the unlikely event someone tries to enforce it.

And as for rehab, addicts don’t go to rehab willingly, or stay there long if they do. They may use it for hots and a cot, briefly, as Anonymous above says, but they will also use it to meet other addicts and thus find new sources of drugs and ways to get them. Scoring is central to the addicts life, and that doesn’t change in rehab.

Most rehabs are secular anyway, and give a weak message with no teeth, stuff addicts dismiss like ‘look how it affects your family’ or ‘we know you can be a better person’ usually Stewart Smalley level Daily Affirmations that no addict will believe, or even listen to. And with no credible threat of jail, no reason to continue the rehab once they get what they want out of it. Addicts don’t give a shit about their family, themselves, or anything else.

    Just the high.

    Nothing else matters.

Jail at least takes them off the street for a bit, so they aren’t robbing anyone else or crashing cars into other people because they shot up, sometimes WHILE driving. They’re not really patient people.

But now, you don’t even have that.

Yes, they will die in larger numbers.

But no worries, Democrats will make sure there are new addicts to take their place, always…

  5. Cool! All the crackheads in California can make their way to Oregon, it’s not very far – depending on where you’re at in CA. IMHO it’s good news for neighboring states. The war on drugs, and “just say no” was a big failure.
