Service Kangaroo? – IOTW Report

Service Kangaroo?

Dr. Tar alerts us to a city’s ban on…. service kangaroos.

The Beaver Dam Daily Citizen reports the city’s Common Council voted 14-0 Monday night to define a service animal as a dog or miniature horse, but not a kangaroo. Police can cite people who try to use other animals.

Beaver Dam police say the woman wrapped the baby kangaroo in a blanket and tucked it in an infant car seat, then took it inside a McDonald’s in February. The woman has said the kangaroo is a therapy animal to help her cope with emotional distress.

!snip!

Miniature horse???

  1. Live pretty close to Beaver Dam. No surprise this woman is something of a looney. What I found interesting from the original story was someone called 911 because of the joey. Not McDonalds, but a customer. Me, I’d have gotten my food and left.

  2. There are 3 dogs on my daughters floor in the door at college, all claimed to be ESA’s. Fine, but my daughter is allergic to dogs, like I am, though not to the extent I suffer..

If you live in Colorado and are allergic to dogs you might as well plan on spending most of your life in non-public places.

The item that I miss the most is being able to go to Mass at any Catholic Church I see, most often I must leave after just a few minutes. Generally the offending animal is not present but it usually takes a couple weeks to air out pet dander. Granted my allergy is more severe than 90% of the people who are allergic to dogs but it kind of irritates me. Luckily I have found a small church with hard floors I can attend.

  3. I thought about this awhile…it perplexed me as I’ve done 8000 miles of moving in the last month….I’m tired….but Mrs. Jamison was 70 plus and I was 12….when I cleaned her walks….LOL…. it was just about moving the snow….LOL…..I hadn’t had these memories for three decades or better….thank you…. I like them… I’m warm and fuzzy, now…LOLOLOLOL….

  4. When the Americans with Disabilities Act was revamped a few years ago, Congress decided that only dogs and miniature horses would be considered as assistance animals. Prior to that, any animal could be designated as an assistance animal, which led to lots of problems with restaurants and store owners (they are required to admit assistance animals). In a way it’s unfortunate, since assistance monkeys, which are far more assistive than dogs in certain cases (quadriplegics) lost their legal standing.
