Singapore Stops Teachers Using Zoom App After ‘Very Serious Incidents’

SINGAPORE (Reuters) – Singapore has suspended the use of video-conferencing tool Zoom by teachers after “very serious incidents” in the first week of a coronavirus lockdown that has seen schools move to home-based learning.

One incident involved obscene images appearing on screens and strange men making lewd comments during the streaming of a geography lesson with teenage girls, media said.

Zoom Video Communications Inc <ZM.O> has faced safety and privacy concerns over its conferencing app, use of which has surged in offices and schools worldwide after they shut to try and curb virus infections.

“These are very serious incidents,” Aaron Loh of the education ministry’s technology division said on Friday, without giving details.

“The Ministry of Education (MOE) is currently investigating both breaches and will lodge a police report if warranted.

“As a precautionary measure, our teachers will suspend their use of Zoom until these security issues are ironed out.” more

Tampa is in Hillsborough County, which just announced a curfew starts tonight from 9 to 5 am. They say large groups have been meeting anyway.

The reason I post this…on the Twitter page for the county, comments are very odd. 90% of the people posting in favor of the curfew are women, some very pushy about it. The ones questioning it are almost all men. I’ll let others tell me what this means, if anything.

  2. Wanting security is one thing, true, but they are talkin down to anybody who disagrees with them. They’re not sounding scared, just authoritarian and nasty. Seems to go a little beyond just wanting security.

  3. I have been using Zoom a lot recently. They updated the software so that each participant goes into a ‘waiting room’ before being admitted by the Admin. Seems to do the trick for the most part – I think party-crashing was the issue more than hacking.

true, true, but from grool’s comments sounds like some women need to get laid!
