The Olympic Diving Pool Has Turned Green; Officials Don’t Know Why

FAM: You’ve heard about all the horror stories in Brazil, like all the raw sewage on the beaches. Now, the dirty Brazil has gone indoors as the Olympic diving pool has suddenly turned green, and nobody there knows why.

Before the games began, Valerie Harwood, chair of the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of South Florida, issued a strong recommendation to Olympians and visitors alike in an interview with the Associated Press: “Don’t put your head under water.”

  1. So nobody has a pool. Look it up.
I have always had a 100×100 or bigger pool

There are three causes of green pool water. The first is a lack of chlorine. Without chlorine the pool water will quickly start to grow algae and turn green. Water without chlorine, especially if it has an algae bloom, is unsafe to swim in, and can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects.

  2. Zika party for the ‘skeeters…it got darker green with each round…it was blue yesterday…blech.

I will note for the record I said to my family on day 1 of diving that the pool was really cloudy which didn’t bode well for its condition several days ago.

  3. They don’t know why??? If they are that damn stupid then there is no telling what is in the water. I’m calling bullshit on this. They know, they are just too embarrassed to say.

  4. The Bazillians must’ve bought into disinformation re chlorine. (DDT, vaccines, et al, were similarly vilified to great detrimental effect on public health.

    Science is unforgiving toward stupidity.
