  1. “Hey, I like documentaries.”

If you are an HBO subscriber (doubtful, I know, since anything they have without dragons in it is absolute shit, except some of their documentaries) you should check out their piece on Elizabeth Holmes and Thernos. The biggest con artist of the last decade or a diabolical pathological liar with the charisma on the level of Jim Jones? The jury is still out, but the piece was riveting. Another interesting aside, all of her Democrat connections; Feinstein, Biden, Obama, they all ran interference for her.

  2. 24 minutes and 31 seconds. Holy shit, thats 24 minutes and one second beyond my attention span.
Back in the day, when I was young and pretty, I was a Street Racer. Equipped with an A Body Mopar, and the best small block ever made. The 340. I use to drive to Freemont Raceway with my slicks in the trunks. Floor Jack behind the back seat. One Saturday night me and the crew arrive, swap tires, go thru tech, (Safety loop, bell housing) and return to some old guy (probably 40) parked next to us with a race ready Pacer. Me and the Pals had a good laugh, and he was a good sport. The last race f my night was with the Pacer dude. I had to peddle hard to get past him. Beat with a sub 11 second run. Beat him by a bumper. I got back to the pits to find out AMC was putting 401’s into those butt ugly cars.

340 was a two bolt main. The big bitch from critics. If you compared it to a BowTie main it was a joke. Beefy shit. Good times. I have a lot more street racing stories that will make your eyes bleed. LOL

  4. When you consider what was on the road with it at the time, the Pacer was no more offensive to the eye than most of the Detroit sleds. I thought it looked cool when it first came out.

Much later, in 1985, I got to drive one. It drove much like our family’s AMC Hornet, but it was like driving a terrarium. But I still kind of like that car.. Now, the Gremlin is a whole other story…

  5. First auto, 1974 AMC Hornet wagon. Periwinkle blue. Originally a delivery pizza wagon, Damn that was ugly! Yet could do the most wicked shit to that and never was left stranded. Going 70MPH and slammed it into reverse, what a trooper!
Added those colorful seascape decals to the rear windows like all the vans did.
    Good times!

  6. Bad Brad, the 2 bolt main…

    “I want a 350.”

    “I can send you THIS 350 with a 2 bolt….”

“Let me stop you right there. The 4 bolt is the same price as the 2?”
    “I guess?”

“Send me the 4, dawg. Send me the 4.”

The 4 made it 380 thousand miles.
    “Yeah.”

Gawd please go get you a real name. Breaks down like this, GMC four bolts were weak shit compared to Mopar two bolt. Ford were even worse. Ford Motors suck always because they don’t breath. The ONLY Ford motor that ever breathed was the Boss 302. Which I would own. Especially a 70 Boss 302. But that would be the only Found On Roadside Dead I would own.

  8. BB, I had two when we got married in 78. We pulled up to our honeymoon hotel in Laguna Beach. With our $300 dollar baby bird as we called it and the valet guy parked it, we still laugh about that.

  9. I actually owned a Pacer back in my school days. My mom found it for me from one of her fellow employees who was selling it. Great for visibility. The only problem? It would stop running at odd moments. Like in the fast lane on the freeway. Multiple visits to multiple mechanics couldn’t find the problem. Finally someone figured out it was a faulty computer chip. I couldn’t wait to get rid of that dog.

  10. Had a Navy shipmate and neighbor in Hawaii that owned a Pacer back in the mid 1970s. Other than the car choice they seemed pretty normal. Still hear from them every Christmas.

  11. We had a couple of AMC Engineers come to work with Us at

Diamond Star Motors in the 90’s….They would tell stories that

would have You rolling on the floor with laughter..Cars leaving

the Plant with maybe one Lug Nut on each Wheel…

    Had a 1980 AMC AMX…looked bad ass…was a P.O.S.!!!

  12. One of my older co workers still has a baby blue Pacer that he takes to car shows. And a good friend of my wife and I had a Pacer station wagon as one of her first cars. The things are butt ugly and always will be, I hated AMC cars, they were some of the biggest POS’s we worked on in my dad’s garage back in those days. My wife’s parents had a barf green AMC Hornet station wagon back in the mid 70’s, it was the only car they ever bought brand new. I don’t know what it was about the 70’s but some of the shittiest American cars were built in that time period. It’s a wonder that AMC was the only car company that went belly up in those days. And don’t even get me started on Chrysler K cars, they were crap. I’m also glad that Chrysler bought Jeep from AMC because they almost damn near killed Jeep.

  13. My friend had an Opel cadet. I’ve seen lawn mowers with bigger engines.

One of my first cars was a 66(?) Rambler with an inline 6. The automatic transmission had 1,2, and D, so you could start in 2nd gear.

Our neighbors had a Pacer. I thought it looked like the cars in the lame “UFO” TV series.

  14. Had a Dodge pick up with a 340 that had a big overhead camper and pulled a big cabin cruiser behind it. Pulled the boat up the ramp with a manual 3spd! Strong motor. Best of times.

  15. I didn’t know they considered the Wankel rotary engine.
    I had a 1971 Mazda RX2 and 1973 RX 3. I made a couple cross country runs with the RX2.
Engine seals went out at around 40000 miles, but they really moved.
