Chicago Cubs DJ Fired For Playing “Smack My B!tch Up” After Pitcher Involved in Domestic Dispute Leaves Mound

Newser-

The Chicago Cubs fired one of their two DJs for what they called an “irresponsible” choice of song—one that was apparently aimed at pitcher Aroldis Chapman, who joined the team in July. After Chapman left the mound in the ninth inning of Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, the DJ played “Smack My Bitch Up” by the Prodigy, the Chicago Tribune reports. Chapman was accused of choking his girlfriend and firing eight bullets in his garage during a 2015 and while no charges were filed over the incident, a trade from the Cincinnati Reds to the LA Dodgers and Major League Baseball suspended him for 30 games after he was traded to the New York Yankees later that year.

“We apologize for the irresponsible music selection during our game last night,” Cubs President said in a statement Monday, per NBC Chicago. “The selection of this track showed a lack of judgment and sensitivity to an important issue. We have terminated our relationship with the employee responsible for making the selection and will be implementing stronger controls to review and approve music before public broadcast during our games.” The Tribune reports that the Cubs have declined to release the name of the DJ, who is one of two that were hired after new video boards were installed in 2015.

  1. There is WAY too much music and other ‘entertainment’ BS between innings @ MLB games. I stopped going years ago when I couldn’t even hear myself think between innings b/c the PA system was going full blast with some stupid music or something stupid down on the field. Someone got a hold of MLB and tried to turn it into some kind of full entertainment package way beyond baseball. I used to go to baseball games to …. watch baseball. Same thing goes w pro basketball. There shall be no silence during time outs. Now I stay home and make sure the neighborhood kids don’t cut across my lawn.

  2. Probably just a coincidence.

In any event, FBI Director Comey has ruled that although the DJ was extremely careless in in choice of songs, no harm was intended.

    😉

  3. Don’t approve of the song title, most likely wouldn’t like the trashy song….

….But the thought of it made me laugh…..

The look on the player’s face …..

    😊
