CO: Rattlesnake bites groom as he poses for wedding photos

FORT COLLINS, Colo., June 22 (UPI) — A rattlesnake cut a Colorado couple’s wedding day photoshoot short after biting the groom in the leg.

Adventure wedding photographer Maddie Mae of Maddie Mae Photography was photographing Johnny and Laura Benson before their wedding reception when the rattlesnake slithered through the grass and bit Benson on the ankle.

“While taking photos just about 50-feet from the parking lot up by Horsetooth Reservoir, in Fort Collins, CO a young rattlesnake jumped out onto the path and bit Johnny on the ankle while we were taking couple photos before the reception,” she said.

Benson told the Denver Post that the pain overtook him quickly as he walked the trail with Mae and his soon-to-be bride.

“All of a sudden it was like someone kicked me in the shin. Then I looked over and saw the snake sitting there, and it was rattling,” he said.  more

  1. Let me be the first to point out the obvious: The paramedic is flirting with the bride and the sheriff holding the guy’s foot is laughing. What a lousy wedding day!

  2. “The snake jumped out onto the path and bit him”

I call bullshit. Most likely the snake was already there and the groom came a little too close to stepping on it.

The brides concern for her new husband is underwhelming. She’s probably pissed that her hubby got bit and ruined “her” special day, because it’s supposed to be all about her.

  3. The first thing you’ll notice when you pull into the Selah rest area North of Yakima, Wa. on the way to Ellensburg is the sign telling you to beware of rattlesnakes. The 30 miles or so between Yakima and Ellensburg is some of the godforsaken dry, scrub brush places in the entire state of Wash. I hate sagebrush and rattlesnakes. It’s also one of the places where the Army goes to train to learn how to fight in the desert. And yes, I do watch for rattlesnakes when I stop there just because.
