GoFundMe refunds donors in alleged scam involving homeless vet, NJ couple

FOX: GoFundMe refunded more than $400,000 to 14,000 donors who believed they were helping a homeless veteran from Philadelphia — but later discovered it was an alleged scam concocted by a New Jersey couple.

GoFundMe spokesman Bobby Whithorne said Tuesday refunds were issued to those who donated to the fund to help Johnny Bobbitt that was created by Katelyn McClure and her then-boyfriend Mark D’Amico. “While this type of behavior by an individual is extremely rare, it’s unacceptable and clearly it has consequences.” MORE

I did not have a good feeling about any of those who were involved from the get go… when I heard that the homeless veteran was claiming that he had been dry shaved by the other two I was driving over the pass and just shook my head and really couldn’t muster any sympathy toward his predicament. I had seen the original story on television while visiting my mother and just didn’t have a good feeling about it.

  2. The boyfriend and girlfriend are nothing if not living examples of the stereotypical embezzlers – a BMW and gambling. If I were a gambling man I would give odds that cocaine and hookers were involved in where the money ended up as well.
