Insolvent New Mexico Obamacare Co-op Boasted Six-Figure Salaries

Daily Caller: New Mexico Health Connections, one of the four remaining nonprofit Obamacare Co-ops, did not inform its customers in June that it was insolvent and its entire board had resigned, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned.

\

It also never told its customers the nonprofit paid its executives up to $450,000 in annual salaries.

The nonprofit, one of 24 Co-op’s originally set up under Obamacare, was supposed to provide affordable health insurance to individuals, predominantly low-income citizens. The demise of the New Mexico Co-op means that only three are fully functioning.

The New Mexico Co-op boasted extraordinarily high six figure salaries per year like many other failed Obamacare nonprofits, according to a DCNF review of its 2015 tax filing Form 990 with the Internal Revenue Service.

Dr. Martin Hickey, the nonprofit’s CEO, received a $450,000 salary, according to its 990. It is unclear what his compensation was in 2017 when the Co-op notified the state insurance superintendent it was insolvent.

All 12 of the nonprofit’s top staff received six-figure salaries, according to its tax filing. Joining Hickey was Chief Medical Officer Dr. Mark Epstein who received an annual salary of $413,000, Chief Operating Officer Anne Sapon who received $342,000, and Primary Care staffer Frances Torres who received $318,000.  read more

  1. Gotta friend who is bitter because of the demise of commie care. EVERYTHING opponents said would go wrong, have gone wrong. Not one of the treasonous gay Kenyan commie’s promises were delivered. Devil on left shoulder says send him this link. Angel on right shoulders says don’t do it. Hmmmm Might wait until next time he bitches about supposedly evil Republican doctors making $150,000 a year.

  2. “Non-profit.” Now there’s a term that always makes me suspicious to begin with. And this O-care co-op garbage just looks like another money-laundering tool for Dems. I wonder how much money these “top staff” people funneled right back to the DNC via “donations?”

  3. @Vixen

Yep. Remember when the Obamacare website cost millions of dollars and didn’t work? Those democrat donors got a lot of money to make a broken website, and I’m sure (as per the contract wink-wink) the kick-backs somehow circuitously found its way back into the pockets of the democrats.

–Just like the $875 Billion stimulus package that got new computers to the FBI (hurray) a guard rail to a little used lake, fish ladders, unionized teachers, and other university grant awardees.

  4. Well to be fair they never said that the Executive group would be non-profit as well.

I wonder who set their salaries when this mess was set up, who approved them and how the executives were reviewed. There needs to be a policing group that has the power to do investigations of these failures to see who should be carrying the can (besides Obama, Jarret and the rest of the band of socialism for thee but not for me crowd)

  5. So typical… The democratic party machinery is full of assholes like this pulling down fat salaries for boondoggle fake work. The CEO probably spent half his “work” day getting wasted.

  6. You mean … ObolaCare is just another socialist scam?
    Another means to steal?
    Another method of plunder?
That if I want my doctor, I CAN’T keep my doctor?

    Obola lied; People died.
Even if all of em didn’t die, they were ALL impoverished.

    izlamo delenda est …

  7. As a matter of fact….I went to the doctor again yesterday. She asked me if I had supplemental insurance. I said yes, it’s part B. She said, well that only covers 80%, to which I said….Then why did I pay $240 a month more for an 80/20 plan that then will only pay 80/20 for the supplemental….she basically said this….”I Haven’t a fucking clue how this shit works anymore”….TRUE, no shit….
