Warren Upton, the oldest living survivor of the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack died Wednesday at age 105.
Upton died after suffering from pneumonia, Kathleen Farley, the California state chair of the Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors told the Associated Press (AP). The Pacific Historic Parks said on Facebook the 105-year-old died after a short hospital stay surrounded by his family. Upton was also the last remaining survivor of the USS Utah.
The USS Utah battleship was moored at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941 when Japanese planes began bombing the naval base in Hawaii, leading to the U.S. involvement in World War II. more here
Rest easy, Sailor.
^^^^^ Amen.
I wonder if he ever came to terms with the TRUTH that FDR happily sacrificed 2000+ of his fellow sailors, etc all to get his bankster and arms merchant friends the war they desperately needed for profits?
RIP
There are now only 15 living known survivors of the attack on Pearl Harbor on 12-7-1941 and I just saw that there are approximately 67,000 World War veterans still alive out of 18 million who served in WW2. Within the next 5 years or so they will all be gone and we as a nation will all be poorer after their passing. May God bless all the remaining WW2 vets, you were the greatest generation.
Amen, Geoff
Not to take away take away from the respect for Mr. Upton, but who wrote that story? If he was the last survivor of the attach on Pearl Harbor, then isn’t it a given that he was the last surviving crew member of the Utah?
And there are still fifteen survivors who were on Oahu at the time of the attack. If they were on Oahu at the time but aren’t considered survivors of the attack, then where were they? I can understand they could have been relatively far removed from the attack, but to make that statement without an explanation strikes me as poor writing.
