Saudi Arabia Suspends Binladen Group Over Mecca Crane Crash

DUBAI (Reuters) – Saudi Arabia has suspended the Binladen group, one of the biggest construction companies in the kingdom, from new contracts following the Mecca crane crash that killed 107 people and ordered the Finance Ministry to review its existing projects, Saudi-owned media said on Tuesday.

MY fav so far was from some random whacko the said nothing, but he was smart enough to name his channel “299,021 views” , so some “news” blog reposted his nonsense idiotic video and did so because it had almost 300,000 views in mere hours!

  2. I was wrong about the weights, it fell on the counterweight side.

    The crane is a German made Liebherr LR1300 crawler crane with a central ballast of 124 tons and a lifting capacity of 300 tons at 4.5 meters. Derrick ballast max weight is 120 tons. The Saudis are saying it’s the second biggest crane in the world, but I think that’s bullshit because the company makes several larger models with heavier lifting capacity.

    It looks like they might have had it parked with the boom at too high of an angle, causing it to flip over backwards in the wind (stupid bastards).

    There is good news though, the Saudis are saying the death count is now 111.
