Texas Governor Signs Bill That May Criminalize Sanctuary Cities

Stream: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott made a surprise appearance on Facebook Live Sunday night to sign a bill banning so-called sanctuary cities. Senate Bill 4 prohibits local law enforcement agencies from telling officers not to ask someone they’ve detained if he is a citizen. It also requires those agencies to work with federal immigration officials. The law goes into effect on September 1.

  1. Good first step but why September 1st? Sort of strikes me that the law he signed is very easy to interpret so no time is needed there. Communication of the law should take about…. ooops, done. If a few weeks were needed to line up lawyers then make it June 1st. Maybe Texas law has some sort of date legality about new laws.

  2. God Bless Texas and Governor Abbott.

Attended a House hearing on illegal immigration right here in El Paso about ten years ago. The late Sheriff Leo Samaniego (RIP Sir) testified at least 30% of the arrests made by the Sheriff’s Department involved illegal aliens. His testimony was followed by El Paso Police Chief Richard Wiles who stated he was not aware of illegal aliens being disproportionately involved in crime in his city! El Paso borders on Juarez, Mexico.

Sadly Mr. Samaniego passed not long after those hearings. El Paso County’s current Sheriff? You guessed it… Richard Wiles.
