DC: Illinois Democratic Rep. Bobby Rush is losing 15 percent of his salary due to repayment of the more than $1 million he owes for making a delinquent loan for a church he started in Chicago.

The announcement comes as Cook County Circuit Judge Alexander White ordered the garnishment of more than $2,100 a month from Rush’s annual $174,000 salary Wednesday, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Rush, who has served in congress for 25 years, was ordered to pay back the original $550,000 June 2005 loan that New City Bank granted him and seven other co-signers. Rush bought a church in Englewood, Chicago, with the loan money. The order came after the church stopped making its monthly payments in November 2011, causing creditors to sue the Democratic congressman.  read more

  1. I have a couple of friends who never took out a $500,000 loan, don’t owe a $Million dollars and earn considerably less that $174,000 per year. Their alimony and child support is “far” greater than 15% of their salary !

I would suspect the “minimum” the law requires is 15 percent of Rush’s paycheck.. It’s good to be an elite Democrat dead beat who has friends as judges.

How long will it take Rush to pay off the $Million dollar debt at $2100 per month?

Rush got preferential treatment from the court, like every other democrat elitist.

  2. ..each month to repay more than $1 million he owes on a delinquent loan for a now-closed church he founded in Chicago.

Berton Ring, Rush’s lawyer, reportedly tried to get the judge to lower the garnishment amount to $300 a month,

Bwuahahaha. $300/mo. You mean pay it back over 277+ years at 0% interest? Bwuahahaha

As is, at $2100/mo, it’ll still take 40+ years at 0%.

Gee, why can’t I get a loan on those terms?

  3. Damn, only 15% and no word on if fees or interest is to be collected. Lucky. I could only dream of getting a judgment like that here in MS, would be hitting him with Fee’s, Inrterst and taking 25% a month and god help him if I can find where he banks.

  4. Sooooo … the taxpayers take it up the ass either way?

Through his salary his debt is nationalized.
If the loan is defaulted by the bank the taxpayers pick up the tab, as well.

We really are a bunch of morons.

Oh, and I love that “served” for 25 years! Served who, exactly?
    Another fucking thief.

  6. @Cato:

back when I was paying child support, I paid (including health insurance for the kids) one-third of my take home pay. At the point when I had to begin paying child support I was working at a job where I grossed 210/week. Child support wanted to take 110/week. My rent was 75/week (efficiency apt.). Needless to say, I fought that order. Fortunately I got a much higher paying job in the meantime, so it was less of a financial hit to me.
