WJ: The battle over compelling Texas Democratic legislators to show up for work escalated Wednesday when House Speaker Dade Phelan signed warrants to round up the absent Democrats.
That prompted a reply from the leader of the runaway legislators that they are doing their jobs even if they never set foot in Texas again.
The clash of wills began when Republicans crafted an election integrity bill that Democrats said was an attack on their constituents. Democrats walked out of the legislative chamber in May — thus preventing a quorum from being present — to prevent the bill from being passed. MORE
This is why I moved to this state. The GOP here isn’t fucking around. And the democrats down here are some of the worst democrats anywhere, total scum.
Lock them up and throw away the key, I’m betting most of them already know what being in jail is like anyway.
Parade them under arrest in handcuffs to the House floor so a quorum is achieved.
Just wondering if anyone here really thinks any of these “quorum fleers” will 1)Be placed in handcuffs and actually arrested, and 2) be compelled in any way to return back to the Texas Statehouse to do their jobs?
I think they make a mockery of the term “Arrest Warrant” which usually involves a crime being committed and LE arresting the criminal to later answer for the crime they committed in a courtroom. None of that is going to happen here.
It’s stupid to even have this parliamentary procedure trick on the books. The reps are there to do a job, namely craft legislation and vote on that legislation. If any normal person walks out on his job, he risks termination, why don’t they?
The state will do a photo op arrest, slap their wrist’s and dress them down (a little). Followed by a patriotic speech. The real answer will be in how the citizenry and constituents react. I assume they’re ticked off about it, except for all the blue haired human pin cushion types and their allies.
I’LL sign the “hangin’ permit!!!” 😈😈😈
I saw a picture of them going door to door serving the arrest warrants.
It would have been more clever to not let the Texas Supreme Court rule like they did for a few days, that way the fleebaggers would have returned to the state with the thought they were immune to prosecution. Then rule like the supreme court did and arrest them immediately. Now they have to wait for these idiots to return to the state.
“If any normal person walks out on his job, he risks termination, why don’t they?”
Because the none of the other pols in Texas are their boss.
They were elected.
If you want that – write a law saying it can happen.
Of course, they won’t be in state to vote on that one either,
@ Cynic–I like the way you think!
“Now they have to wait for these idiots to return to the state.”
According to the article, some have dribbled back home and they are only 4 away from having a quorum now.
This is EXACTLY why public employees should NOT have a union.
