  1. The first ThanksGiving I spent in the Army we had a Italian cook from the Bronx and he surprised us with his families Turkey Cacatore that was cooked for hours in his secret sauce..He was an excellent cook. We lost him to some officer after word got out about his culinary excellence.

  2. An old tradition of Marines/Navy in the Philippines: The Marine Barracks on the Navy base (120 plus Jarheads) would all buy tickets to a special Thanksgiving dinner. Only once the day arrives, none of the Marines show up at the ballroom, it remains all decorated but empty. The large amounts of food is then given away to the local Philippine families.

The Navy families living on base would host the Marines. A little known fact that you never hear of unless you’ve been there.
