The ‘Russian Collusion’ Trial Is On, And Mueller May Be The First Casualty

DC: WASHINGTON, D.C. — Lawyers for Russian company Concord Management and Consulting, LLC, formally entered a “not guilty” plea in federal court Monday in a case Special Counsel Robert Mueller probably never thought would happen.

Mueller, weathering significant criticism that his Russian collusion case was thin, unveiled a grandiose indictment Feb. 16 against 13 Russian nationals and three Russian companies. The 13 Russians in question were charged with waging “information warfare” in the United States, interfering with the 2016 presidential election, and conspiracy to defraud the United States.

Mueller generated headlines with the February indictment, safe in the knowledge the 13 Russians were beyond U.S. jurisdiction. Therefore, there would be no trial — only sensational Russian collusion accusations.

Mueller may now have to try the case, and Concord’s lawyers have put the special counsel on notice. The Russian company’s lawyers intend to invoke “discovery” to obtain U.S. intelligence about what they knew of Russian activities.

“I guess Mueller thought it was a freebie, for sure,” former federal prosecutor Andrew C. McCarthy told The Daily Caller News Foundation after the court proceeding.

“He thought it could make this association (of Russian collusion) and it would never be challenged in court,” McCarthy, a National Review contributing editor, said after the proceeding.

Concord retained the services of two attorneys at mega law firm Reed Smith, and the company is demanding a speedy trial. The lawyers indicated they were going to exercise Concord’s rights under discovery to examine all of Mueller’s “evidence” of the conspiracy.  more here

  1. I’d love to know what went through Mueller’s mind when those lawyers turned up to say, in effect, “Your move, asshole. Show us what ya got.”

I’m pretty sure whatever he thought it boiled down to, “OH, SHIT!”

  2. Litigation is a two way speedway. I think this lawsuit is going to cause Robespierre Mueller more trouble than he expected, now that he has discovered that these defendants are Litigators not Capitulators.

  3. Mueller is going to slow-roll the case and delay discovery. Meanwhile, his media will be working on the Concord Dossier. I wish Concord all the best, but all this likely means is more leftist attorneys being paid for by us to prosecute this sideshow trial.

  4. The only thing that would make this better would be for the other 2 companies and 13 individuals in Russia to lawyer-up and do the same thing to Mueller. Then the asshole would have to try 16 cases at once. And as icing on the cake, have Justice tell him no increase in funding.

  5. @Thirdtwin: Mueller already tried to slow roll the case by claiming the prosecution needed to research service of process on Concord. The judge called bullshit – if the indictment was filed and the defendant makes a voluntary general appearance, formal service of process is not even needed.

From and after the arraignment, Mueller will have a difficult time slow rolling this case without being subject to contempt of court or having the case dismissed. The Sixth Amendment guarantees the right to a speedy trial, and Concord’s lawyers have already stated they will exercise that right. And in light of the ruling on the bogus service of process argument, this judge may do what he can to enforce this constitutional right.

  6. richard 654: Thank you. It occurred to me a few days ago, that Mueller reminded me of Maximilian Robespierre, and that his hand picked Clinton loving, Trump hating legal team were his Committee of Public Safety. If this historical similarity plays out according to what happened during the French Revolution, all these Jacobins are heading for the modern equivalent of a bloody end with a guillotine in their future. The Inspector General’s next Report on the Clinton Investigation is coming out soon, and that may be the blade that cuts their throats and ends this Reign of Terror.

  7. Bliss: I think that the mob that turned on Robespierre and beheaded him and his ruthless henchmen has a modern day equivalent. It’s the American public, who are beginning to realize that this whole Russian Collusion investigation was a fraudulent attempt to overthrow President Trump. Now we are learning that Senator John McCain was the person who handed Comey the phony Russian Dossier and suggested that the FBI investigate its truthfulness. Right. As if the FBI wasn’t already using it to illegally surveil Trump’s campaign organization and thousands of his supporters. It’s all going to unravel, and it’s going to expose the Osmidigen Administration.
