  1. My daughter, her husband, my grandkids and great-granddaughter live in Tampa. They’ve gone to Miami to stay with friends until the storm is over. I’m praying for their safety and all the others in its path.

  2. Agreed. Deeply repulsive.

But it occurs to me that the degree of repulsiveness depends on the identity of the one jeopardizing himself. For example, it would be only a teensy-weensy bit repulsive if it were Jamie Raskin.

  3. His full name….Lieutenant Dan Edmund Fitzgerald……

He’s a hell of an entrepreneur though. Who knew you could cook meth on a sail boat during a hurricane?….LIEUTENANT DAN DID!….

  4. @joe6pak — We (two humans, two cats) will be hunkering down with my sister. She’s on slightly higher ground and slightly farther from the coast in a newly build condo that’s built to Cat-5 standards. Her unit faces an inside courtyard rather than outside weather-facing. I’ve been watching reports and forecasts very carefully and I’m pretty confident we’ll be OK, and our house weathered Irma and Ian with minimal problems.

Storm surge inundation forecasts have gradually lessened as Milton gets closer and NHS map has us in the gray/OK area. Wunderground estimates max wind 80 mph late tonight.

  5. I know a childhood friend in Ft. Myers. Her last post on FB: “Hurricane Huddle at my place! Keep praying, we are all afraid of this one!”
Calling it a “Hurricane Huddle” means she is not taking this serioulsy.

  6. During Hurricane Rita, several pine trees in my back yard that were between 27 and 30 inches in diameter snapped off about ten feet from the ground. The upper parts of the trees were never found. We searched all over the subdivision for them and they were nowhere to be found. As they snapped off, it sounded like bombs going off.
