Don’t Let the Cookies Fool You, They’re The Left’s Little Pioneers

The Girl Scouts in Kansas City are all in a tizzy today because Arch Bishop Joseph Neumann has severed ties with the organization and scrubbed them from the church’s website.  The author of this article explains why, Here

I did a little digging myself on the Girl Scout’s official website. Did you know that they have a section titled “Advocacy News?” Skim  the photos quickly and note all the Washington politicians the organization is posing its members with Here

Did you know that the Girl Scouts have a “Legislative Agenda?”

Now go to the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and do a search for “legislative agenda”  Here

Then search the BSA for “Advocacy.”

  1. BSA overhauled requirements as of January 2016 and actually included a focus on God with each rank advancement. They allow sponsoring organizations (every troop is sponsored by a school, church, or other org) to decide about gay leaders, but as a Mormon scouter said that is more a moving of responsibility away from BSA and to the local.
Granted, my troop is pretty liberal as would be expected in the Peoples’ Republic of Santa Monica. But even though we have had a stated policy of openness since the Supreme Court verdict in 2000 there is no advocation of homosexuality, nor does it have any part in our curriculum.

  2. Follow-up – I just clicked on that Legislative Agenda link, even downloaded the more detailed pdf. Is there anything on that agenda, at face value, that anyone disagrees with?

The GS of Kansas City are claiming unfair treatment because the Arch Bishop did not exclude the BSA. The Catholic Church can’t object to political activism if you’re organization doesn’t engage in any “advocacy” which is the point of asking readers to check for themselves which organization is far more engaged in political activism. – Dr. Tar

  3. I well remember in 1972 when the GS came out to endorse the Equal Rights Amendment. Nobody knows the trouble I got into when that took place. 🙂
I was a public official at the time, so the press hated me for what I did. I got me a front page smear.

  4. The Catholic Diocese of Kansas City just kicked the Girl Scouts out of all the churches in the diocese. The reason given is that the Girl Scouts promote so many positions that are immoral and incompatible with Catholic Church teaching such as promoting abortion and contraception. The bishop there now recommends American Heritage Girls.

  5. I stopped buying cookies in 2004 when I read this:

“It was on NBC in 2004 when Kathy Cloning, CEO of the Girl Scouts, admitted the group ‘partners with Planned Parenthood across the country to bring information based sex education programs to girls.’
The STOPP program run by American Life League, which monitors Planned Parenthood, earlier surveyed 350 councils to ask if they had any involvement with the abortion provider. Eighty percent refused to answer, 17 councils said they did and 49 said they don’t.”

I kept my fire starter badge though…

  6. GS: “Wanna but some Girl Scout cookies to support our troop?”
Me: “I would be honored to reward your effort, dear. How long did you work on making these cookies?”
GS: [eyes shift in confusion] “… We don’t … actually make the cookies. We just sell them.”
Me: “And I reward your effort accordingly.” [walks away]

  7. Yes, but the Girl Scout Leaders at the national level live high on the hog from the money made by the little girls peddling their cookies for them!

  8. The politicization of everything is the goal of the left. I wouldn’t be surprised if even toilet paper isn’t on their agenda, after all, look how many unfortunates don’t have access to toilet paper! Never underestimate the tentacles of the slimey left.

  9. Loved being a Brownie Scout and my mother was the Scout leader. She made her own “uniform” from some not-quite-the-right color of green fabric so that my sister and I could have the full Brownie uniform — little brown dress, belt, coin purse that attached to the belt, beanie, even socks. Still remember all the songs we learned, our day camp in the summer, our field trips, earning our badges. So much fun. And not once did we ever talk about how babies are made, or how to prevent babies from being made, or abortions. Simpler times.

  10. I know some Conservative families on the Island whose girls are in Scouts and are terrific kids. So, I’m not quite willing to throw the baby out with the bath water. Yet. (Close, though,)

  11. I learned first hand at 10 years of age to hate the GSA. I was with them in Tacoma. Endless groupthink. I learned all I needed to know about these commie harpies for a life time. So damaged and angry at all the GS indoctrination, my parents finally let me leave at 12. I never allowed my girls to join.

  12. My girls were in GSA when they were little and they loved it. As parents we did all the events and everything was fine until the liberals started ruining everything – as they always do. The last straw was when they decided that they couldn’t keep the name “Father / Daughter Breakfast” because… I don’t know… because it wasn’t “inclusive” of CrossDresser Guardian / Little Girl?
    I said, “That’s it. We’re out.”

  13. It’s been a long, long time since I have purchased their cookies. Most of these poor little girls don’t understand how far left the GSA has gone. Removing, virtue, ethics and morality of the past.

  14. I’ve gone 4 years now without girl scout cookies, and lemme tell you, I miss the taste of thin mints, samoas, and tagalongs… /sigh
If only the cookie profit actually WENT somewhere decent and good… :[

  15. @ Dadof4

I will gladly tell you privately, but I would be exposing myself publically with the story. There are still people who would remember me. I’m not worried about me, but my kids and grandkids. There were peeps who hated me for liberal reasons, and might want to “out ” me, even after all these years.
