The publisher, Penguin Random house, is owned by a German publishing house and a British publishing house (the germans own 53%) and I’ll bet the heads of both these firms had to sign off on an advance of this size since Hillary’s book fizzled right out of the starting block. I wonder whether the advance is against earned royalties from sales because if it is I don’t think they’re going to sell so many books to cover that piece of change especially since Obama’s track record with writing autobiography’s are somewhat checkered to say the least. If it tanks I wonder if somebody at the publisher is in for the high jump. Wouldn’t it be great to see this thing in the remainder bin three months after being published.

The publisher will write this off as a loss while transferring a $65 million payoff to the obamas. The publisher will therefore not pay their fair share for the profit from actual successful books. But they will happily buy the Kenyan Obama’s book, thinking of it as a charitable donation the Help the Cause.
