Congressman John Culberson Set Up a Kill Switch on Sanctuary City Funding

Vdare: Because of the foresight of a Texas Congressman, President Trump will be able to end certain funding to the largest sanctuary cities plus the entire state of California on his first day as President. Working quietly, Culberson convinced the existing Justice Department to certify those cities as non-compliant with federal law, thereby making them vulnerable to loss of money from Washington.

And if President Trump should get cold feet about tough immigration law enforcement, he should note that a November Rasmussen poll found that large majority of voters favors deportation of illegal alien criminals:

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 81% of Likely U.S. Voters favor a plan that calls for mandatory deportation of illegal immigrants who have been convicted of a felony in this country. Just 13% are opposed. These findings are nearly identical to those measured in August of last year.

Most sanctuary cities don’t mind sheltering foreign gangsters and violent thugs along with mere job thieves from across the border.

On Wednesday, Congressman Culberson appeared on Fox News to discuss the issue:

  1. If the only thing that Trump does is enforce our immigration laws, build the wall, stop the moslim invasion and send back the “syrian refugees”, I will consider his first term a rousing success.

But looking at what’s going on right now, several months before he’s even been inaugurated, like with Ford, Carrier, meets with Abe and others scheduled, the man’s campaign energy is certainly carrying over.

  2. Once the teats run dry, the little foreign piglets will die.

Now that Pax Americana has been crippled, Obama went whole hog on the Pox Americana. For starters we need to address the raging infection known as sanctuary cities.

  3. Cutting off funds to law enforcement is counter productive.
Law Enforcement don’t make the policies of sanctuary cities.
The head of the snakes are Local government leaders and officials.
All federal dollars for these lawless cities should be in jeopardy. Reducing law enforcement creates an even larger problem for law abiding citizens. federal

  4. What about the kill switch? How does it work? When will it go into effect? How will our government deal with rioters and civil unrest? This article tells nothing, it is click bait.

  5. “Uuuuhhhhmmm, now that he so smugly let the cat out of the bag, what’s to stop Obama from “quietly’ REVERSING the kill switch??”

Whatever Obama has done by EO, Trump can undo by EO.

Whatever Obama undoes by EO, Trump can redo by EO.

The Left opened Pandora’s box on this and foolishly sowed to the wind. Let them reap a devastating tornado from it.

  6. I’m actually kind of surprised that Obama’s Justice Department certified this. Working under the radar is one thing but surely one of the liberal drones there would have reported this activity and at the least orders would have come out to if not cripple the process then to drag it out. Maybe they felt so confident of a Clinton victory they didn’t feel the need to. It would be interesting to know (in human speak, not legalese) how it works and how it can be applied.

  7. @ cato
Given the corrupt *scoundrels* to whom you refer, “allocating” funds “for specific purposes” is merely a suggestion; they use it like a SLUSH FUND. SO: cut off funds from *here*, they have to take money from *there* to keep things moving….

  8. I’m for defunding ALL parasites including bureaucrats. They are the walking dead. Either they become productive or they become criminals. If they become criminal we lock and load.

  9. I am for prosecuting public officials who facilitate criminal activity, and haboring illegal aliens is criminal activity. Set up temporary special federal courts and start sending these folks, and the owners of busunesses who hire illegal aliens, to prison.

Fines should be based on the cost of repatriating an illegal alien. You have ten illegals from Mexico working for you, you cough up the cash for the transportation back the Mexico, and then do your 5 years.

  10. Lynch agreed to it and it was made law because she knew she wasn’t going to enforce it and neither was the spouse of the guy she swapped grandchild stories about at the Phoenix airport.
BO can ignore the law, but he can’t repeal it by executive order so all Trump has to do is merely do what his oath of office says: enforce the laws of the US.
