Andrew Klavan is a Schmuck – IOTW Report

Andrew Klavan is a Schmuck

There’s a PJ Media piece by Andrew Klavan that I’m supposed to be impressed with. It’s called “Reality Has a Voice.”

Klavan has the audacity to open the piece with this line-

After a year of relentless attacks from the press…Donald Trump’s poll numbers are rising.

Klavan says “the press” like it’s “those other guys, over there.” Let me remind you of Klavan’s attack, not only on Trump, who he calls “evil” and a “schmuck,” but of Andrew’s attack on Trump voters, who he characterized as clueless and emotional.

Take a look-

Yeah, “I’m angry.” I’m angrier now than I was when he first published this video, because Klavan is casually trying to blend while looking around and whistling, claiming he was never #NeverTrump.

Let’s summarize-

-Makes video calling Trump evil and a schmuck and urges schmucks that support Trump to look for a better candidate, someone who isn’t a schmuck.

-Publishes his video for #NeverTrump Ben Shapiro.

Ben Shapiro for the Daily Wire:

I will never vote for Donald Trump…I stand with #NeverTrump.

I think Trump will get blown out in a general election.

The counterargument to the #NeverTrump movement comes down to two words: Hillary Clinton. Trump will supposedly close the borders (a lie); Hillary will not. Trump will appoint conservative Supreme Court justices (unlikely); Hillary will not.

It’s on the consciences of the people who went along with this nomination. We did not select Trump. We will not vote for him.

…they call for conservatives to swallow hard and unify behind a man who opposes all conservative principles – to save conservatism!

Strip the drunken boor antics from Trump, and you’ve got John McCain…

…if we don’t say “no” to Donald Trump now, we will continue drifting ever further left…

Now, let’s look at some excerpts from the fantastically pithy piece by Klavan, filled with all sorts of Klavan gravitas –

I’ll tell you what I mean. I was a liberal once. When Ronald Reagan was elected president, the press told me he was an idiot actor, a warmonger, and a racist and I believed them. I never consulted any news source that presented him positively. I worked in some major news outlets for part of Reagan’s two terms, and I never even met anyone who supported him.

My left-wing prejudice was so baked in, I refused to acknowledge Reagan’s successes…

But then the Berlin wall came down. Don’t believe the re-writers of history — nobody saw that coming. Nobody, that is, but Ronald Reagan.

Two terms of Reagan greatness, and still he was unconvinced that he was good for the nation.

I remember sitting on the edge of my bed that day, staring thunderstruck at the television screen as East Germans, brutalized by socialism, yearning to be free, dismantled the central symbol of the Cold War. I remember thinking: “I’ll be damned. That old b*****d Reagan was right about everything.”

Okay, so we allow Klavan to have his anti-progressive epiphany, one that, weirdly, was prompted by the tearing down of an international symbol of progressivism. One wonders why Reagan’s conservative economic policies, which turned around the liberal economic failures of the Jimmy Carter years, didn’t have an impact on the “flippable” Klavan. (Maybe because it’s complete bullshit, but makes for a great plot pivot point in the bullshit story?)

He says, “I remember sitting on the edge of my bed that day, staring thunderstruck at the television screen as East Germans, brutalized by socialism.”

There were no pictures of East Germans on the television that day being brutalized by socialism. So Klavan had to know prior to that day that that socialism was a brutal system, yet he supported it? Why would the wall coming down turn him around politically?

But I’m digressing. I’m merely trying to point out that this “arc” is crapola. And I’m also wondering why he is employed and listened to if he’s consistently wrong and is consistently trying to play catch up, even today.

In the piece Klavan says,

When Ronald Reagan was elected president, the press told me he was an idiot actor, a warmonger, and a racist and I believed them…

The video I posted above is “the press” telling me that Trump is a schmuck and evil. Luckily I didn’t believe the smug Klavan.

Reality has a voice.

  1. How about” Despite the constant attacks of the mainstream media Trump’s poll numbers are climbing.”

    BECAUSE WE APPRECIATE THE WINNING!!!

  2. BTW – the NFL and NBC are assholes as well.

Kids had the super bowl premies on and what did I see – Tony Dungee looking more amre like the crypt keeper each day interviewing (and grinning like some mutant animal) an eagle player boasting about protesting against police and getting nfl money for groups to do more.

Kids aren’t talking to me now because I clicked it off immediately and told them we weren’t watching no super nfl bullshit on my dime in my house.

  4. When I was 23 I voted for Jimmy Carter. A few years later I clearly remember Reagan making sense even in the fog of the Left screaming that he’s just an actor, an old man, stupid and disconnected from reality. I observed this smelled a Rat and started looking at things objectively… and have been ever since. I’ve voted for Republican Presidential candidates (even when it hurt) since voting for Reagan as a result. Klaven’s about my age and I understand people make mistakes, but not like this! I you’re going to try to influence people’s opinion, maybe you should have the ability to make sense of a situation ahead of time!

  5. When I was 18, I voted for Ronald Reagan. When I was in my 50s, I started noticing, “Klavan on the Culture,” at PJ Media. Now I listen to some of his conservative work at the Daily Wire via SoundCloud. While he is better than AntiFa, it is important to remember that Andrew is the same person who was not niggardly with the n-word in his novel, “Don’t Say a Word.”

  6. NO, YOU have to reread it.
He says while everyone was telling him Reagan was an idiot he saw the economy changing. But then he writes THIS-
“My left-wing prejudice was so baked in, I refused to acknowledge Reagan’s successes even so.”

He still was not on board.
He says it took the wall to come down before he was a Reagan convert. REAGAN WAS OUT OF OFFICE. It was 1989.

    What did he learn???

He learned to make the video I posted above where he calls Trump evil and a schmuck. And he implies anyone voting for Trump is just an angry idiot.

Klavan can write anything he wants, he can publish any video he wants, and I get to respond when Roger Simon writes on Twitter that this is a MUST READ and it’s getting retweets. WHY?
    What is this piece?

He was wrong about Reagan and he was wrong about Trump, only a year ago.
Why is this a guy I MUST READ and why are you impressed with it?

    I’d rather read Abigail Adams.

  7. He was wrong & has admitted it.>>

    And we need him why????
The video I posted is dripping with smug, sarcasm, smarminess.

    And “now” he’s coming around?
He was wrong about Reagan. He was wrong about Trump, the only 2 presidents in my lifetime worth getting out of bed in the morning for.

So he’ll be right next time?

Why isn’t Joe Dan’s videos on PJ Media?

  8. P.P.P.S. One of “conservative” Klavan’s favorite tricks, (along with his butt buddy, Shapiro,) is to refer to the Demoncrat Party’s military arm, the KKK, as well as Nazis, (i.e. National Socialists,) as right wing. Andrew is proof that even if you put lipstick on a turd, it still stinks.

  9. He recently interviewed Jonah Goldberg and asked him if he regretted publishing the National Review REAM TEAM issue.
Jonah said NO and Klavan sat there nodding his noggin.
No confrontation. No defense of Trump, no pushback. He allowed Goldberg to say he was STILL RIGHT and I’m left wondering why Klavan did the interview. Is this what we need in the media, people consistently wrong, saying a few Mea Culpas, retaining their position of authority and then doing puff pieces with high-profile #NeverTrump and letting them double down.

Sorry if I’m coming down too hard on Klavan if this is your hero, but I don’t get it. If I can come down hard on Klavan, risking what little I have in this industry, why can’t Klavan?
Is it he has too much to lose?
    THAT’S the problem.

  10. None of these nevertrumpers will ever get their credibility back, no matter how they pretend to be on board now. We have seen most of them jump off the boat at the slightest bullshit kerfuffle drummed up by the media and the Dems. For the last year, they have proven themselves weak and undependable at best, and rank opportunists at worst when things are looking bad for Trump. They should all just retire quietly to Nothingburg, never to be heard from again.

  11. Lyle,

I’m aware of what Klavan says NOW, that’s the point of my piece.

I’m questioning what Klavan’s piece is and what it’s supposed to accomplish and why it’s a must read??

It seems to be trying to disengage Andrew Klavan from “the press” that participated in relentless attacks against Trump, when he was one of the biggest schmucks trying to get people to not vote for him.

His anecdote about being a dupe of the press during the Reagan years (apparently reality had no voice until 1989) is particularly hilarious when he was the press one year ago trying to r*tfuck Trump.

There may be a kid right now that is going to write a piece about a future candidate 30 years from now who says “I didn’t vote for Trump because the media told me he was an evil schmuck.”
And that press would be ANDREW KLAVAN.
I can forgive, but I don’t embrace. Not with a 2-time loser on the two most important presidents in my lifetime.

  12. Thirdtwin,
    Exactly right.
These late-to-the-party types are eyeing the escape hatch should Trump do anything truly bad, and we would only be able to record their pivot to “I told you I was right about Trump!!,” as they abandoned ship, on the very highest speed cameras known to man.

  13. Klavan proves that it is easier to con someone than to convince him he’s been conned.

Usually, however, once awakened to a con the mark is more discerning next time. Not so with liberals.

  14. http://politopinion.com/2016/10/warning-nevertrumpers-mr_pinko-video/

I called out and still call out all the NRO assholes, Ben Shapiro, Erick Erickson, Katie Pavlich, etc…, etc…
They still get a VOICE in the MEDIA and I’m still the SCHMUCK who backed someone (while getting excoriated by RINOS) who will become one of our greatest Presidents in the history of the United States.
Do I get a show on Fox News? Do I get a Radio show on Sirius? Do I get any $$$ for campaigning my ass off for a President who those ASSHOLES BENEFIT FROM?

List of Never Trump Bloggers and Politicians
SOURCE – Here’s a list of prominent (RINO’s), bloggers, elite type etc Republicans who
won’t vote for Trump. The talk show host like Levin, Berry and Beck have been
promised $$-no doubt. These are individuals who rather have Hillary in power so
they can maintain their stature in Status Quo! RedState and the National Review
will become the former ‘experts’ in political analysis. These whiners should be
isolated as soon as Trump wins and become ‘old news.’

  15. Wellll shit. Welcome. lol. And I’ll just ignore the constant name calling of the Trump supporters, (and even the Trump maybes) that spewed forth from his mouth, right? Right???
I was never a fan of Klavan. There were times when I couldn’t tell if I was listening to Michael Medved or Klavan. lol. So I ignored him.
But please, tell me he’s not implying that the MEDIA tricked him into not liking Trump. (It’s especially hilarious because ‘Media’ is in the name of his site.) I, not being a full on Trump supporter at the beginning, but did have him in my top 3, actually bothered to go check him out at Youtube where I saw endless videos of Trump talking about politics… even on OPRAH! Whaaaat? The same fucking cow talking shit about Trump who acted like his best friend back in the day? YES! THAT Oprah. So, even though CBSNBCPMSNBCLOL was talking massive shit upon massive shit about Trump, Klavan still could have gone to youtube and searched videos from 1980s, watched the Trump rallies, listened to what he said about politics, the economy etc. Not what he called Rosie O’donuts. I mean, the REAL shit. But no. Klavan and the other Klavanites did not. Which is odd, because again, MEDIA is in their fucking name. Pfft.
Welcome aboard the trump train, but just don’t be surprised no one wants to sit next to you, or let you conduct. Deal with it.

  16. Oh, and let me say that I don’t write this casually and easily. He is a very talented guy. He is a smart guy. He’s made me laugh in the past.
There is room for him, for sure.

  17. “He was wrong about Reagan. He was wrong about Trump, the only 2 presidents in my lifetime worth getting out of bed in the morning for.” – BFH

Same here. But I’ll raise you this: When Trump is caught on camera right as he’s saying “F*uck” – well, I get very animated – in a supportive way.

“F*ck the f*cking f*ckers!” DJT (I can only imagine, right?)

  18. I dunno. Why do we have to automatically hate those who weren’t on the Trump Train to begin with? I wasn’t on it in the beginning. There was a LOT to mistrust for a conservative. But I listened to him, and the more I heard, the more I liked. Of course I voted for him, the alternative was unthinkable…but in the back of my mind, I was leery…what if he turned back into a New York Democrat? The happy thing is, the more he is President, the more I LOVE him. I think some of those on Pinko’s list are coming around to realizing, while an imperfect Conservative – Trump is doing exactly what we Conservatives want. Guys like Shapiro, Klaven – they have been wrong-headed, but ultimately, they are on our side. Bottom line is we won’t all agree all the time, but when I hear talk of cutting folk from the conservative loop…makes me feel like we are acting like the left…”Believe as I DO, or be banished”. Okey dokey, I’ve had my say. Ima gonna go have dinner now. Peace to you all.

  19. If he’d stuck to his stance I’d understand the anger. I know plenty of people who thought trump was a joke & would be a disaster. I was on that list, though I wasn’t a never trumper. Turns out a lot of people were wrong. Moving on.

  20. as a guy that was waffley between cruz and trump until about a month before my state (WI) voted in the primaries, I finally jumped on , myself. My waffley reasoning was that trump had a past of saying liberal things and it was hard to trust if he had truly turned the corner. Then i started paying attention to little non policy things and that is what convinced me. Things politicians dont consider when trying to win votes, all of which were more about his appreciation for fellow human beings. He never told people he appreciated them, he always showed it in grace and humility and forcefulness when needed. I appreciated that he didnt talk down to me, that it was more like having a conversation. I’ve said this before (at daily wire, BB, PJ etc.) and people called it being conned. My response was always, if showing appreciation for your fellow human being is being conned, then I want to be conned ALL the time.

In all honesty I dont know enough about klavan to really have a rooting interest there. The guy I like most at DW is Knowles. Shapiro is hung up on niceties ranking them as highly as all the other things it takes to make a president. I find his criticisms to be superficial at best.

Where my biggest disagreement comes with shapiro is that shapiro says if you dont “act presidential” then you’re not being the president ( which is totally superficial). I say, when you’re president, what you do, good bad, and ugly, IS presidential. Trump’s mannerisms are necessary as the blunt instrument of true resistance to the global media/governmental monopoly of thought that has infected washington and screwed everyone else. Most often I see Trump as gracious and kind, being courteous when the time is necessary, and gruff when called for. He’s what I would be if I were president, fair, honest when needed, but sly when also needed (knowing the opposition doesnt fight fair, requires a little getting your own hands dirty to fight back) and most importantly, consistent in thought.

The only radio host I trust implicitly is Rush, he has the same straight forward but willing to fight attitude as trump. I know this is getting wordy, but sometimes I need to rattle off everything im thinking at that moment for my own clarity.

Heres to keeping on helping trump and advancing the conservative ball forward.

  21. I will take Abigail Adams, BFH, Mr. Pinko, MOTUS, Dianny and all the other deplorables any day and every day over any and all #NeverTrump commie colluders who have failed to admit their wrongness, apologize for all the dick things they said about US, and wholeheartedly cheer on My Donald and MAGA. I have no time for stuck up dumbasses or sore losers any more than I have time for back stabbers and flim flammers. Screw them.

  22. “You won’t understand Klavan, Shapiro and others until you acknowledge the elephant in the room staring you in the face.”
No we pretty much understand the elephant in the room was hillary and they were perfectly willing to cross their arms and hold their breaths while she stormed in and stunk up the country. lol

  23. I got a copy of Trump’s book before the election and by the end of the chapter entitled “Wollman Rink” I knew that 1) he had my vote and 2) he would be a great President. MAGA!!! Oh, and Klavan is too smarmy for me. Smart, maybe, but smarmy.

  24. I dunno. Why do we have to automatically hate those who weren’t on the Trump Train to begin with?

Because they (and there are a lot of them) are still hedging their bets in pursuit of what..being right? Proving their bona fides to some silent evaluator? Being taken back into the good graces of those who never really liked him anyway? I don’t know. Mark Levin is another, and the distaste I have for people who engage that tactic is very strong.

I know..presidents come and go, and I suppose they’re banking on things breaking down further and they want a spot on the lifeboat.

Meantime, this is war, and they want to have it both ways.

  25. @AuntLiz ~ I dunno …. maybe I don’t see the ‘automatic… hate’ for ‘those who weren’t on the Trump Train to begin with’. I don’t believe just because you picked a different horse in the race that you ‘automatically hate’ the other candidates (& I’m speaking of just the republican candidates, to clear up any misconceptions that remark may have made in people’s minds). I, myself was a Cruzer; She Who Must Be Obeyed was for Trump from jump street. I jumped on the ‘Trump Train’ when, during the debates, Trump called Cruz “Lying Ted”. After Trump’s & Cruz’s lovefest on earlier debates I thought somehow Trump got burned by Cruz going back on his word. That was it for me. The guy’s not afraid to go on the offensive against his opponents, particularly against someone he thought was an ally. & Cruz’s butthurt over ‘my Heidi’ was the kicker.
& yeah, I voted for Reagan & I had no doubt whatsoever that he was the best candidate for the job, as I voted the same way for Trump …. no doubt whatsoever
anyone that thinks Reagan was some sort of, what was the words? … ‘idiot actor, a warmonger & a racist’ …. then goes on to compound his admitted group-think by being a Never-Trumper? … no thanks, man … you’re off the ‘Cool List’
I think you may be mis-interpreting the post. no one is calling for anyone’s ‘banishment’ … it’s just that clowns like Klavan want to have it both ways … he continues to do the same admitted stupid shit over & over, but wants forgiveness to be still be a cool guy ‘in the club’ . we’re just saying ‘sorry Andy, we don’t trust you, go to the back of the line & maybe one day, if you prove you’re worthy you’ll get your Club Jacket back’

  26. “I dunno. Why do we have to automatically hate those who weren’t on the Trump Train to begin with?”

Because the choice was so obvious we no longer trust these people judgment. Check with us, we’ll tell you whom to vote for. I’m dead serious, and further more he’s accomplishing everything we expected him to.

  27. My belief on these Never Trumpers in the news media is that they have never been conservatives even though they talk a good game. Krauthammer, Medved, Shapiro, Goldberg, Klavan, and many more are almost to a person are former demonrats. I happen to believe most of them are infiltrators. I love people coming to our side but I respect people who weren’t stupid leftists to begin with more.

  28. To the people that say he doesn’t act presidential.
Being nice 24 -7 will get you eaten alive, especially in politics.
Ok Be polite but always have a plan, somebody once said.
It used to be that the press could take you apart because they bought paper and ink by the truckload, but now the Internet is cheap, so we have a turn of the events that benefits us.
The left has lost all control of The monopoly.

  29. @MJA

“You won’t understand Klavan, Shapiro and others until you acknowledge the elephant in the room staring you in the face.”

‘No we pretty much understand the elephant in the room was hillary and they were perfectly willing to cross their arms and hold their breaths while she stormed in and stunk up the country. lol’

No, you just don’t get it. You still don’t see the elephant. Hillary, and all her cronies are merely proxies. The red pill is hard to swallow and you’re far from even discovering it. Folks like you think they’re enlightened and know what’s going on, but you’re still part of the game. The truth is much harder to swallow, but provides unimaginable clarity. As much as you deny the fact, you are still a pawn in their game. People like you need to learn what history has taught us (over a hundred times).

  30. @Bad_ Brad

If you’re too dim to understand that the red pill is a metaphor, I can’t help you.

Western civilization has gone through this problem over a hundred times before. As the Scriptures say, there is nothing new under the sun.

People like you are the reason these serpents succeed.

  31. @Bad_ Brad

The irony here is that I’ve said a lot, although you’re too stupid to pick up on my subtleties. Either that, or you’re still in la-la land. Either way, I pity you.

  32. Mr. Pinko, you need to add the name Kevin Williamson to your list. That guy posted some of the nastiest anti-Trump screeds during the campaign. He absolutely despised Trump supporters; lots of personal attacks on our character, etc. I used to like reading him, and then during the campaign his pieces were just one after another of him absolutely spitting in my face, it was a real surprise… I was surprised by the whole NeverTrump phenomenon on the right, to be honest.

  33. Good post BFH. Never forget the nevertrump friendly-fire phenomenon.

2016 should have been one year-long party, but I kept having to put my drink down so I could pull the knives out of my back.

Luckily, the Internet is forever, and these people can’t hurt us anymore.

  34. This video was posted March 11, 2016. Klavan now supports Donald Trump. When it came down to Trump v. Clinton on election day, he voted for Trump. Why highlight a 2 year old piece that has been overcome by events? Hell, I was against Trump in the primaries, too. That doesn’t mean that my views couldn’t change when circumstances changed.
